March 2008

March for Outreach

This year March means Resurrection. It also means Recreation & Restoration. Your gift this month is helping YPN bring basketball and the gospel to urban youth who need to experience great hoops and hear good news.

Rev. Jim Galanaugh is our CityConnexx National Director. He is also the Executive Director of Re-Creation Unlimited which brings basketball camps to other ministries to serve their youth during the summer.

Please continue to pray for these significant and critical outreach programs.

This year is the fifth year he will team up with Restoration Christian Fellowship, a YPN Ministry Partner serving an at-risk neighborhood in Denver. This camp will get the youth off the streets, teach them to play hoops and most importantly hear the good news and hope of the gospel.

We are also very excited as a youth group from Missouri has chosen to serve at Restoration Christian Fellowship during their basketball camp through our CityConnexx program!

Jim Galanaugh

Jim is also the head basketball coach of the Denver Street School Bulldogs, an alternative Christian high school for drop outs and YPN ministry partner. Recently the Denver Post and Channel 9 news highlighted Jim's efforts to reach out to these at-risk youth. (Visit the YPN website to read the article.

Please continue to pray for these significant and critical outreach programs. We need more youth groups to come this summer to help with the basketball camps and other service projects. Maybe your church can bring a group to "Serve in the City". Go to www.CityConnexx.org for more information. If you have any questions, Jim can be contacted on his direct line, 303-905-8342.

LIVE COMPASSION!

Your Donations at Work:

In addition to participating in CityConnexx and matching a youth group to serve the basketball camp, we selected Restoration Christian Fellowship as the recipient of our monthly grant program.

They serve one of Colorado's most multiracial, multicultural and socio-economically diverse communities. They have several ambitious programs as part of their outreach efforts to combat the high dropout rate, reduce the juvenile delinquency and gang participation by providing mentoring, tutoring and other educational, recreational and cultural enrichment activities as positive outlets for the youth they serve.

One such program is their Hoop Scoop Basketball Camp, hosted by Re-Creation Unlimited. This summer program serves kids grades K-8. It provides an outlet through sports for them to experience positive role models and learn life skills that will enable them to make better choices and become a positive asset to their community. Every participant who attends camp receives a trophy, t-shirt, breakfast and lunch on a daily basis, along with daily motivational speeches and devotions. Grants allow this camp to be offered as one of the few no cost activities for youth in their service area.

Restoration Christian Fellowship Prayer Request:

Timari (right) and her sister Trinity (left) are both enrolled in the RCF after-school programs. They have two other sisters and a brother and ask that you pray to "just keep their family safe". Trinity also wanted to let you know she is desperately praying that God provide her with her own bedroom so she doesn't have to share with her brother.
